Coloring Outside The Lines
1. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Lipstick and Liner. Every great lipstick application starts with lip liner. Not only has the neutral lip resurrected itself from the 90's, but liner has too! We LOVE the way liner adds so much definition and volume to the lip, plus it holds lipstick on 2x longer.. Opt for a neutral brown tone lip liner and start by adding liner to the outside of the lip - yes outside. 'Overlining' gives you visually plumper lips in seconds.
Pro Tip: Want extended wear from your lipstick? Try using a lip scrub 1-2 times per week to prevent your lipstick from flaking off.
Find Your Shade
2. Mastering a beautiful neutral lip color is all about finding the right shade that looks best with your skin tone, coloring and wardrobe. Wearing the right tone of lipstick can actually help you to appear younger and give the overall impression of being more balanced. First things first, find the skin tone that describes you:
Cool: Cool skin tones with pink or blue undertones should opt for a cool toned neutral pink. If you're someone who generally only burns when in the sun, has light blue or cool green eyes, has freckles or see's blue veins in your wrist, you would generally be considered a cool skin tone. If you have cool skin, you need to stay away from warm brown anything (including eyeshadow, liner, lipstick, blush) on your skin. A light cool pink neutral tone with zero brown to the base is your optimal nude shade and can make your skin look glowing! Also, make sure the pink undertone is darker than your skin or you run the risk of looking too washed out.
Celebs with cool skin: Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Christie Brinkley, Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon.
Neutral: Neutral skin tones, neither cool nor warm skin, tend to have a more greenish hue to the skin, tans in the sun, can wear silver or gold jewelry, has visible green veins in the wrist area, have dirty blonde to dark brown hair. If you are a neutral skin tone, beige to coral brown undertones in nude lipstick look great on you. Nothing too dark brown or cinnamon and nothing too or pink are optimal for you.
Celebs with neutral skin tones: Jennifer Aniston, Gisele Bundchen, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus, Kendall Jenner, Angelina Jolie.
Warm: Warm skin tones have hues of gold, olive, yellow or peach. They often times have a visible green or olive vein in the wrist area and have warm brown, warm dark brown or warm red hair. Warm skin tones are flattered with golden based nude lipstick like a rust, chocolate or cinnamon color.
Celebs with warm skin tones: Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz and Kim Kardashian.
3. Bronze Babe. If you're not used to seeing yourself with neutral nude lips or don't feel like yourself, we recommend adding a flattering skin tone bronzer. Nude lips look best when the skin has more color and skin strength.
4. Amp up your eyes! Nude lips look amazing paired with a brown smokey eye. Cools should look for a grey brown. Neutral for a mid-toned medium brown and warm tones should where deep golds, rust or cinnamon.
5. Natural lipsticks looks best when the lipstick used is full of pigment - completely blocking out the natural lip underneath. And don't forget your corners ladies!!
