Everything You Need To Know About The Charcoal Trend, Part Three: Face Masks

Part three of a three-part series on the charcoal trend. If you’ve been following along… we’ve told you (a few times, now!) exactly what activated charcoal is. If you haven’t been following along… well, good news! You can check out our other blog posts HERE!

Breakouts happen. To all of us, yes. But knowing that we’re not alone doesn’t make them suck any less, does it?! So let’s talk about charcoal, and what it can do for our skin.

“Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne. It is proven to adsorb thousands of times its own mass in harmful substances, which makes it a popular ingredient in facial masks.” (via LIVESTRONG.)

Isn’t that great news?! It works wonders in fighting off acne-causing germs, sucking out impurities, reducing inflammation and keeping your pores clean. Let us say that again… It literally sucks the bad stuff out of your pores!

What’s that you say? “Tell me more, tell me more?!” Ah… we’d be happy to! Activated charcoal balances oily skin by sucking out excess oils and stale sebum stuck within the pores. Say “bye-bye!” to those blackheads! And, because charcoal is a bit gritty in texture, it helps to gently exfoliate your skin and get rid of acne scars, along with those blemishes. Yup, slough off the dead skin on top of the acne scars to reveal new skin beneath… but be careful not to scrub too hard. No need to go crazy scrubbing, let the charcoal do its job!
